Travel Envy: A Few Little Luxuries

The Pleasure of Being Prepared, Comfortable, and Stress-Free, While Everyone Else Is Struggling.

After years of traveling around the world for live performances, I've discovered little tricks that make flying easier, more comfortable, and less stressful. Here's one of my favorites.

A Few Little Luxuries

Noise-canceling headphones, power bank, sleep mask and comfort items

Some of the smallest things make the biggest difference.

  • The right headphones: On most flights I like my Shokz. They're light and comfortable, and they leave my ears open. But on a long flight when I need to sleep, I switch to a full noise-canceling headset like Sony. It's a welcome escape from cabin noise. *Audible or other entertainment makes the time pass fast... sometimes, it's so engrossing, I sit listening while everyone else in in a rush.
  • A power bank: Don't assume the airplane's charging outlets will work —or that they will even have one. Remember, power banks belong in carry-on baggage.
  • Downloaded entertainment: Movies, music, audiobooks, or podcasts that don't depend on Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi on flights typically SUCKS!
  • A lightweight sweater: Because airplanes seem to have only two temperatures: freezing and too warm!
  • A small comfort pouch: Lip balm, moisturizer, tissues, sanitizer, and anything else that makes you comfortable. A seat pocket or tray organizer is fantastic here.
  • A good seat choice: On the airlines where they have economy seats so close your knees are in the seat in front of you,  a little extra legroom is worth more than first-class food. Honestly, there should be a HUGE WARNING about those seats.

And on longer flights, move around and stretch when it's safe to do so.

The Pleasure of Being Prepared

After all these years of traveling, I've learned that great travel experiences aren't necessarily about how much money you spend.

They're about making smart choices that let you relax and enjoy yourself.

Good food. Everything organized. No frantic searching. No unnecessary stress.

And maybe a few fellow passengers looking over and wishing they'd thought of it first!

That's Travel Envy.
