That is the moment I wanted to capture.
When I created this Michael Jackson painting, I wasn’t interested in painting another likeness of one of the most photographed people in history. There are countless Michael Jackson portraits that show his face. I wanted to paint something raw, viseral, far more powerful—the anticipation, the mystery, and the electricity that surrounded him before he ever sang a note. Is isn't meant to be a photographic likeness, thats what cameras are for. It is meant to make you feel his energy and soul.
Sometimes what we don’t see is every bit as important as what we do.

When I painted this piece, I wanted the colors to carry the same energy that surrounded his performances. The bold brushwork reflects movement and excitement rather than stillness. The composition invites you to finish the story yourself. Some people immediately hear Billie Jean. Others remember Thriller, Smooth Criminal, Beat It, Black or White, or Man in the Mirror.
